Tearful tributes were paid to car crash victim Nathan Cox at his funeral in Hilperton today.

Nearly 300 people gathered at St Michael's and Angels Church to mourn the popular 20-year-old who was described as a “loving, caring and respecting man”.

Family tributes were read out during the service, which was led by the Rev Stephen Ball.

His cousin Aaron Latchem told the congregation of the fun times he shared with Nathan, who he looked on as a brother, including their comical Jim Carrey impressions which received laughs.

He also spoke fondly of the times they shared on a night out and joked that Nathan would often get kicked out of clubs because “his dance moves were so wrong that they looked like he was starting a fight with people".

Closing off tribute he said: “As long as my heart is beating, yours will be too.”

Nathan was “very proud to be an uncle” and his sister, Lisa Latchem also said in her tribute: “When the wind blows, I know you’ll be there.”

In another tribute, Nathan's mother Louis Cox said: “Friendship and loyalty were important to Nathan. If you had a friend in Nathan, you had a friend for life.”

Alison Little, Nathan’s auntie who has said that she looked at him as a son, reiterated how much she had learnt from her nephew. She said: “I didn’t realise how much I learnt from you.”

“Sleep tight my naff naff.”

Acknowledgement was paid to Nathan’s love of Christmas and during the service, Silent Night was sung. Rev Ball encouraged mourners to sing it the way Nathan would have wanted “loud and proud”.

Other songs included Lego House by Ed Sheeran as well as Straight Jeans and Fitted by Vybz Kartel.

Rev Ball ended the service with a message to mourners, many of whom are a similar age to Nathan.

He said: “Please, no more. Cut your speed and cut the bravado. We can’t have any more funerals like this.”

The service was followed by a private family burial and the wake was held at Trowbridge Rugby Club.

The family had asked those in attendance to bring along photos to the wake so that a memory board could be created in tribute of Nathan.

Any donations will be given to Trowbridge-based Leash For Life, a local dog rescue centre as Nathan treated his dog Leo like his best friend.

The funeral of Chad McVeigh, who also died in the car crash on December 5 at the Westbury Trading Estate. will be held on Monday at All Saints' Church, Westbury, at 10.30am followed by a wake at the Angel Inn.

The funeral of the third victim, Jordan Taylor, will also take place next week but his family say it will be a private ceremony and have requested details are not made public.
