While police saw the funny side of a call to a disturbance at a Trowbridge flat on Sunday, residents in the same block say they have begged Wiltshire Council to move their noisy neighbour.

The Trowbridge Neighbourhood Policing Team posted on social media, saying that an “occupant was shouting at his TV having lost quite spectacularly a game of Ultimate Fighting Championship”.

However, other people in the block on the Southview estate have told the Wiltshire Times the man has made their lives hell over the past year, making loud noise late into the night.

Tracey Gaca, 51, said the disturbance late on Sunday was the latest in the long line of incidents and that she has asked the council many times to either move her or her loud neighbour.

Ms Gaca, who works as a cleaner at Castle Place, said: “I go to work at 5am and some nights I am not getting any sleep at all. I have done everything the council has asked, but when I call all I get told is that ‘the wheels are in motion’.

“I have lived with this for over a year and don’t find it funny... it is like torture at times as I have gone three nights without sleep due to the noise.”

Fellow neighbour Jennifer Daniells, 63, who has just come out of hospital, said: “I was in Bath RUH for two weeks with liver problems, but when I came home I have to put up with him making noises late into the night.

“I don’t need that stress and when we call the council we don’t get any answers. There is always lots of shouting and doors slamming at 3am and it is just not on. He is a neighbour from hell.”

A Wiltshire Council spokesman said: “We always do everything we can when people report noise disturbances to us.

“We start by trying to resolve these by working with the residents, however if this is not successful we can issue formal warnings, involve dedicated anti-social behaviour experts or, as a last resort, take legal action.”

Sgt Jim Suter, from Trowbridge Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "We are aware of complaints about a tenant at the flats on Southview estate.

"The responsibility for dealing with nuisance tenants lies with the relevant housing association, and we have been working closely with Wiltshire Housing to provide evidence of nuisance.

"On this occasion the report was of disorder, however on arrival it was found to be a tenant playing a computer game rather enthusiastically. It was a genuine call with good intent, and there is no criticism of the caller."
