Police are appealing for information following an attempted robbery in Trowbridge.

At approximately 10.45pm on Saturday a 21-year-old man from Melksham was walking with his partner along a footpath behind John of Gaunt School, between Pitman Avenue and Gloucester Road, when he was approached by a male who pulled out a BB gun.

He pointed it at the victim and demanded him to hand over his belongings. When the victim resisted, the offender continued to walk down the footpath. It is believed he was then joined by three or four other males.

Detective Sergeant Sarah Mackett, of Melksham CID, said: “Police are carrying out a thorough investigation into this incident, but we would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time, or anybody who heard anything suspicious.”

A 15-year-old male from Trowbridge was arrested on suspicion of robbery and a 16-year-old male, also from Trowbridge, was arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of an imitation firearm. Both have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Anyone with information on the incident should call police on 101. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously if preferred.
