FAMILY, friends and former colleagues of Westbury PC Mike Johnson, who died in 2009 from a heart attack, aged 46, came together at the weekend to take part in a memorial football match in his memory.

Held at Westbury Football Ground, Meadow Lane, the match was played between officers from E Division and the Armed Response Group, with the latter winning the game 7-0.

Sergeant Dave Hall, who was unable to attend the match on Sunday but who has played in previous years, said: “I worked with Mike for many years and he was a big football fan and he had played for both the Armed Response Group and E Division in the past.

“His family were there on the day and we managed to raise £160 which will be given to Dilton Marsh Primary School, who have a memorial garden fund and garden there in Mike’s memory as he was their local police officer.”

The father-of-two collapsed on August 3, 2009, at Westbury Police Station after jogging into work.

He was airlifted to the Royal United Hospital in Bath but died before he arrived, leaving behind his children, Alice and Alex, and fiancé Sarah Kaufman, a police constable in Trowbridge who he had been due to marry.

More than 100 police officers lined the streets at his funeral having served for more than 22 years in Wiltshire.
