YOUNGSTERS from all across Wiltshire were able to show off their entrepreneurial spirit on Saturday as they took to the streets of Trowbridge as part of the Arts Festival.

Young people, aged between 13-30, were encouraged to get involved in the Teenage Market by holding a stall or putting on a performance on Saturday in the town centre.

Organised by the Trowbridge Town Team, Trowbridge Arts Festival and the Trowbridge Chamber of Commerce, the event is now in its second year, and chairman David Baker said it was a huge success and a brilliant way to showcase the talents of the people involved in the Arts Festival.

“The Teenage Market went extremely well and all the young people sold lots of their stock and they were just so pleased with how it went as well,” he added.

“After the event I spoke to the owners of the cafes and even they said it was absolutely brilliant because they were rushed off their feet all day.

“I think the event helped with the regeneration of the town as well as it promoted the youngsters and the products they had to sell.

“We want to be working all across Trowbridge with as many young people as we can to help prepare them for the world of work.

“It was just a great day which received positive feedback so let's hope it continues to grow in the future.”

There were 12 stalls in total, which was double the amount they had last year, alongside acting and dancing performers.

The Town Team also arranged for a group of mystery judges to test the youngsters on their business skills and customer service with the winners to be announced soon.

Tracy Sullivan from the Trowbridge Arts Festival added: “There is so much that we can celebrate for the talents of people who live in Trowbridge and that includes our young people. It gives them the opportunity to show their work which is really important and it is a fantastic show of their creativity, entrepreneurship and performance skills.”

Due to the success of the Teenage Market, the Town Team now hope to hold a similar event up to three times a year.
