CHILDREN at Warminster’s Princecroft Primary School put paint brush to canvas last week as they enjoyed a week of art.

Local artist Steve Porter visited the school, located on Princecroft Lane, where the 121 youngsters took part in a variety of activities centred on painting, sculpting and taking inspiration from world famous artists.

Headteacher Michael Parks said: “Last week we had a big art week and the children just all loved working on the different projects with the local artist.

“They recreated classic paintings from artists such as van Gogh and Picasso which were absolutely stunning.

“We also had willow sculptors depicting animals and just having a whole range of different things to work on got them excited.

“Some of the children went down to Warminster School where they went in workshops and we also had Scrapstore from Melksham come in and create a 3D sculptor which is hanging half way across the ceiling.

“We’re quite an arty school, so we’ve been trying to achieve a gold award from the Art Council and also looking at the art of music.

“The thing we want to develop further is music in the school and more musical opportunities.”

The paintings and sculptors are expected to be on display for parents on Wednesday at the school.
