THE man who died in the crash on the A350 near the Lacock crossroads has been named.
Darren Honeyball, 40, of Melksham collided with a Silver Fiat Punto on Sunday (Feb 28) at 7.31pm near the Whitehall Garden Centre causing his BMW M5 to spin off into a tree.
Mr Honeyball was driving from Chippenham towards Melksham when his car struck the Fiat Punto, which was travelling from Melksham and turning right into Cantax Hill leading to Reybridge and Lacock, officers have said.
“The BMW continued on, crossed onto and off the Chippenham bound carriageway striking a tree,” PC George Rabczak of the roads policing team said.
“The driver of the BWM sustained fatal injuries.
“The driver of the Fiat, in his early 20s, and his female passenger, also in her early 20s, were uninjured.”
Police, firefighters, ambulance crews and the air ambulance were all on the scene last night and until the early hours of this morning.
The road was closed for a number of hours from Whitehall Garden Centre to Asda in Bradford Road, Melksham.
Anyone with any information should call Wiltshire Police on 101.
