PUPILS saying farewell to Southwick Primary left the school in style on Friday afternoon after being treated to a ride in a 1965 vintage open top bus.

A total of 17 Year 6 children toured Trowbridge in the bus which was organised by their parents as one final send-off before they gear up for secondary school in September.

In previous years pupils have been treated to a limo ride as well as a bowling trip.

Mum-of-four Tracy Curry was one of the parents who helped arrange the special leavers treat which she said went down well with the pupils.

“It is an annual thing and it has become sort of a tradition for the Year 6’s now,” the 42-year-old added.

“As parents, we looked at all the options in what we can arrange and this year there were not enough pupils for a limo but we still wanted to put something together.

“I think the children got suspicious towards the end of the week but they didn’t know what they were getting and so when the bus turned up at the school, they were so excited.

“For a lot of the parents, it was their last child going through primary school so a family barbecue was the perfect chance for everyone to come together.”

After a whistle-stop tour of the county town, the pupils returned to Southwick village hall where they were greeted by friends and family for a leavers party fit with music, food and a disco.

To end the day, there was also a balloon release where the children wrote their name and one wish for the future on the balloons before releasing them into the sky.
