STUDENTS walked away with beaming smiles at St Augustine’s College in Trowbridge this morning after collecting their GCSE results.

Around 76 per cent of pupils secured five A*- C including English and maths and 31 per cent of all grades achieved at A*/A.

One high-flier was Nicole Micheli who couldn’t believe her luck when she opened her results to find she had achieved A*s across the board in 11 subjects.

She said: “I wasn’t that nervous coming to school to collect it because I thought whatever I have got I will have to accept but I didn’t expect that at all. I’m definitely proud of myself and I hope to celebrate with my friends in the evening.”

Fellow student Vincent Ling added: “I thought I was going to get a B but I’ve come out with nine A*s and two As. I didn’t expect to get so many A*s.”

Headteacher Jo Alsop said: “We have enjoyed a very happy morning full of celebration watching our pupils open their exam results which were once again superb. The pupils displayed a mature work ethic for the duration of their studies and therefore thoroughly deserved to do so well.

“A total of 24 pupils, representing 19 per cent of the year group, attained eight or more GCSEs graded A*/A which is an incredible achievement. This underlines how determined to succeed this year group was. These wonderful results will keep us amongst the highest performing schools in the country and show that the vast majority of our pupils make expected or better than expected progress and are ready to continue their post-16 studies.”
