THANKS to a combination of canny radio marketing and sterling customer service, Alan Joy Windows has become one of the most popular home improvement companies in North Wiltshire.

Since its inception in 1996, the company, based in Semington, has grown from two members of staff to today’s current total of 24 – and its customer base has also increased considerably.

Chairman of the company, Tony Hemmings, who now single-handedly runs the firm after Mr Joy’s retirement, believes it is the generous aftersales service that has led to the company's growing popularity.

He said: “The reason we’re one of the favoured home improvement companies in Wiltshire is simple – we provide the best aftersales support of anyone.

“We look after our customers, who are very discerning buyers in this day and age, extremely well.

“We provide a 15-year guarantee and we back it up, which means we look after them properly for 15 years after their purchase.”

Aside from its long-lasting range of home improvement products, which include windows, doors and conservatories, Alan Joy Windows is also renowned for its devilishly catchy radio adverts – namely the closing jingle.

This has been key to the company’s success, explains Mr Hemmings.

“Alan and I decided to launch the company with radio marketing, which was quite a big move as it’s fairly expensive and a big commitment," he added.

“But thankfully it worked and GWR FM, which is now known as Heart, said it was one of the most successful campaigns they have ever featured.

“The original music was based on a Benny Hill jingle which was very irritating, according to a lot of people, but they would sing along to it every time.”

Alan Joy’s fitting team carry out home improvement work to houses anywhere within a 30-mile radius of Melksham, including in parts of Swindon and Bath, but the company has also carried out work at homes in London.

At Alan Joy Windows, the customer always comes first, ensuring that making home improvements is anything but a pane.
