A gorilla who has lived at the famous Longleat Safari Park since 2012 has died.
Keepers at the park announced the news on Twitter, explaining why they had made the decision to put him to sleep.
The adored gorilla started to get veterinary treatment in July, when he started showing signs of tiredness and had less of an appetite.
Despite their encouragement and intervention, Evindi's condition deteriorated and tests revealed signs of terminal cancer.
A spokesperson for the park said: “Following advice from the veterinary and senior Safari Park teams, the extremely difficult decision was made to euthanise him to prevent any further suffering.
"He will be deeply missed by all of us here at Longleat, particularly the dedicated keepers who care for the bachelor troop at Gorilla Colony.”
Evindi came to Longleat with his brother Alf ten years ago where they were reunited with their older brother Kesho.
He spent his years enjoying their company alongside two other male gorillas, Yuba and Suwedi, and celebrated his 16th birthday back in April.
Longleat has shared some of the keepers’ favourite photos of Evindi, and is also encouraging people to share any photos they took of him as well.
