Put your best foot forward to see the sensational sights of Bath.

Walking and cycling

The Bath Skyline Walk from the University is a six-mile circular walk around the city, which encompasses woodlands, meadows, an Iron Age hill fort, Roman settlements, 18th century follies and spectacular views.

Bath is a great city to explore on foot and there are many themed waking tours, including:

Ghost Walks of Bath: Meet outside the Garricks Head pub, in Sawclose at 8pm, Monday to Saturday from April 1 to October 31 and Fridays only between November 1 to March 31 and discover some enchanting tales about the 65 different ghosts that haunt the city. www.ghostwalksofbath.com

Bizarre Bath: This unique comedy walk runs every night until November 2, leaving The Huntsman, North Parade Passage, at 8pm. Cost is £8, £5 for students. www.bizarrebath.co.uk

Great Bath Pub Crawl: Find out how Bath's reputation for "ease, disease, lechery and sport" was earned and why John Wesley and his Temperance Movement considered it "a valley of pleasure, yet a sink of iniquity." The walk no longer runs nightly, but private tours can be arranged. www.greatbathpubcrawl.com

Jane Austen's Bath: A tour around the places Jane used to live, walk, visit and shop, including locations that appeared in her novels. Tours run on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays all year round. Meet at 11am outside the KC Change Visitor Information Centre in Abbey Courtyard. www.janeausten.co.uk
A lovely place to walk or cycle along is the Kennet & Avon canal. Take the tow path from Widcombe and explore the surrounding countryside, stopping off at a few pubs along the way. The Bath to Bristol cycle-path is also a favourite with pedestrians and cyclists - this traffic-free route has gentle gradients and is a great way of getting between the two cities.

Open-top bus

There are plenty of open-top bus tours in Bath. Details of tours can be obtained from the Tourist Information Centre in Abbey Courtyard. Most offer a hop-on-hop-off service and tickets are usually valid for 24 hours.
