CHIPPENHAM Town say have taken every precaution to ensure there is no repeat of February’s violent scenes when Merthyr Tydfil return to Hardenhuish Park tomorrow.

Last season’s meeting was marred by clashes between rivals fans in the stands during and after the match, but the Bluebirds have introduced new security measures to prevent trouble this time.

Fighting fans from both sides last time have been identified and banned from tomorrow’s fixture.

An additional four private security staff have also been employed, two of which will be stationed in the Blues Bar before, during and after the game.

After consultation, the club have decided against segregating rival fans but all stewards will arrive early for an extensive security briefing.

“We went and really discussed it with the police and they was very happy with the plan we’ve put in place,’’ said club secretary George McCaffery.

“The FA have said they’re very pleased with the professional way in which we’ve planned. I don’t think there’s anything more we can do. I believe we’re completely covered.”

Merthyr club official Meurig Price said: “Our supporters coach will be arriving at 2.55pm and leaving at 4.55pm.’’
