The Lafarge Sports and Social Club is one of the best kept secrets in the area - a world away from its roots as a working man's' club.

Now classified as a public house and therefore open to everyone, the Lafarge club is set in 62 acres of beautiful lakes, golf greens and countryside. With stunning views of Westbury's famous white horse the club has a surprising array of facilities offering a broad selection of activities.

Probably the best know part of the club complex is the nine hole golf course, which now offers both membership and pay and play' options. Being quite flat the course is easily accessible and if you're only just thinking of taking up the game you can get started with individual or group lessons.

For those who prefer the sound of gently lapping water a two acre lake offers a tranquil spot to get away from it all. An active angling club ensures the lake's fish stocks are well managed but day tickets are also available for the more casual fisherman. Still, if you're not into angling, now one of the UK's most popular pastimes, it's simply a lovely area to walk around or even take a picnic.

For a real slice of quintessential England there's also a flat green bowls club or if you're feeling energetic the football club could be just the thing to let off steam on a Saturday morning. An indoor gym, equipped with all the latest exercise machines, also caters for those don't like being at the mercy of the British weather.

The clubhouse itself is quite large, capable of seating up to 250 people, complete with fully licensed bar and an impressive snooker and pool room. If you've been inspired by TV's Strictly Come Dancing there's also a popular ballroom dancing evening which is held every Saturday and open to all abilities.

Open every evening, most people will probably be surprised at the range of facilities and even more surprised to learn that it's been open to the general public for several years. Perhaps it's time for this well kept secret to come out of hiding.
