NICK Blackwell has world domination on his mind after his first fight under the Hennessey Sports banner was announced this week.

The Trowbridge middleweight star signed with top promoter Mick Hennessey last week and has been pencilled in to step into the ring at the Glow events centre, part of the Bluewater shopping complex, on Saturday October 4.

‘Bang Bang’ Blackwell’s scheduled ten-round bout will be part of the undercard to the televised MaxiNutrition Knockout final between light-heavyweights Bob Ajisafe and Travis Dickinson.

The 23-year-old’s opponent has yet to be announced but the Contender Gym man says that he’s keeping one eye on the bigger picture as he looks to send his career into an upward trajectory.

“Mick Hennessey has said to me that he wants me to be fighting for a world title in 18 months and that’s what I’ll be looking to do,” said Blackwell.

“I’ve fought people at that world-class level, like Max Bursak and, even though I know I was too young at the time, Martin Murray.

“Everything has just given me that extra buzz in training and I can’t wait to get out there in October. I’m used to fighting on smaller shows where the only people that know what’s going on are in the room but this time, I’ll be fighting on terrestrial TV and I’ll need to be on my game.

“I don’t know who it’s going to be against yet but it’s definitely going to be a tough opponent – maybe it’ll be someone like Bursak or the lad that Billy Joe Saunders beat last (Emanuele Blandamura).

“I feel like a kid at Christmas at the moment and I just want to go there and make a statement. If I could knock out (Blandamura) in three or four rounds, that would really get my name out there.”

Blackwell also says that he still plans to call out British middleweight rival Chris Eubank Jr and is hoping that the two are on a collision course.

The Trowbridge fighter added: “I know that a lot of people don’t like him and I don’t really have anything against him but I don’t like his attitude.

“I’ve sparred him a few times and I think the reason that we don’t spar any more is because I beat him up too much.

“I’d love to get in the ring with him and do it to him again – we’ll see if we can make that happen.”
