AFTER returning to the top of Division Two following their midweek success over FC North Wiltshire, Bremhill View FC maintained their one-point advantage over Corsham Centre Youth thanks to a 2-0 triumph over Rowdy Cow Rowde, who they will face again on Thursday evening in what will be another possible banana skin to their title hopes.

With neither side unable to find an opening in an exciting first half, the deadlock was broken by Reece Allison whose rifled home a superb strike from 18 yards to give Bremhill the lead before player-manager Ben Redford sealed the all-important victory.

Bath Road FC stretched their unbeaten run to 13 matches thanks to a much closer than expected 2-1 victory at relegation-threatened Melksham Forest Community Centre, who had suffered an 8-2 defeat against heir opponents on the opening day of the season.

Tim Knight’s goal for Bath Road separated the teams at the break and Tom Sigee doubled their advantage in the second period before Matt Carroll replied late on for the Forest to set up a nervy final few minutes.

Bath Road face Corsham Centre Youth on Thursday evening.

Oakhill FC finished their season with a thumping 7-1 win at a very depleted Miller Sports B side to complete a double over Tim Knight’s side who they had beaten 3-1 back in November.

Connor Laidlaw, playing just his second game following a year’s suspension, scored two of the goals, Joe Court, Nathan Merrett, Kieran Willis, Callum Eacott and Rob Burton shared the others for Oakhill. Jamie Hutton’s first goal for Miller gave them their consolation.

With their pitch at Goatacre unavailable a last-minute switch saw The Mallard FC travel to Corsham Centre Youth for a second time this month and, like the first game that the Centre won 7-0, the outcome was the same with Pete Ralph’s team claiming an 8-3 success to stay in touch with Bremhill View at the top of the table.

The Mallard were 1-0 up after two minutes after an error in the Centre defence presented defender Connor Dodds with his first goal of the season. Josh Bright’s rich vein of form continued for the Centre and he poked home the equaliser on 20 minutes.

Another defensive error from the Centre allowed Mallard to retake the lead, Mark Adams putting them 2-1 up. The lead was shortlived as Ben Thomson scored from the penalty spot, before evergreen Stuart Tutty headed home to put the Centre 3-2 in front at the break.

Centre added another two within five minutes of the second half through Ben Thomson and a thunderbolt from Sam Hodsoll.

Centre had numerous opportunities to score but failed to convert any of them, another Centre defensive error saw a penalty awarded the Mallard keeper Andy Adams stepped up to slam home their third.

More opportunities were spurned by the Centre through poor finishing, but in the last 10 minutes the Centre woke up and a third goal for Thomson and an Adam Shipman goal made it 7-3.

Simon Gray scored with the final kick of the game to make it 8-3 and in celebrating tore a thigh muscle which is likely to keep him out of next week's Knockout Cup final with The Castle FC.
