MELKSHAM Town were crowned champions of the Toolstation League Premier Division for the first time in their history with victory in their final game of the season yesterday.
The Conigre men travelled to Willand Rovers yesterday and ended the afternoon with the Premier Division trophy in their hands following a 2-1 victory.
Sean Benison headed Darren Perrin’s side into the lead before Gary Higdon also found the net in the first half in Devon to seal the title.
Melksham’s nearest challengers Buckland Athletic were beaten 1-0 at home to Slimbridge, meaning Perrin’s troops could seal top spot by a margin of eight points, with Buckland taking on fellow Wiltshire outfit Bradford Town on Bank Holiday Monday.
