HAVING secured the Division Two title on Thursday night with a 2-1 victory over Corsham Centre Youth, Ben Redford’s Bremhill View signed off their WG Parr Trophy and league-winning campaign with a champions like performance away at Miller Sports B.

Bremhill duly obliged but a stubborn Miller Sports side made them work for their 4-1 wn which, in truth, could have been a lot more had it not been for the woodwork, some fine goal keeping from Paul Chick and poor finishing from the Bremhill forwards who were all looking to get their name on the score sheet.

Brad Wilkins put through his own net to give Bremhill the lead and Neurin Jones who was on target along with Steve Allison for the champions in their win over the Centre in midweek made it 2-0 at the break.

Lewis McMullen reduced the deficit for Miller after the break, however his goal was unable to spark as comeback as a second from Neurin Jones made sure Bremhill stayed in charge of proceedings.

Radford’s side peppered the Miller goal looking for further goal, but a despite going close on numerous occasions they had to wait until 10 minutes from time to add a fourth. Marcus Lovesey’s 35 yard strike was misjudged by keeper Chick as he failed to connect with an attempt to clear it upfield.

After the game Bremhill’s winning captain Steve Allison was presented with the Division Two winners trophy by league president Ken Clarke who also presented the players with their mementos to cap what has been a fantastic season for the Calne based side.

Both Bath Road and Old Road have been busy in the last few weeks of the season, especially the former whose match at Box Recreation Ground was their eighth in four weeks.

As it was Old Road, who lost 7-0 with a much depleted team in midweek at home to Rowdy Cow Rowde, managed to get a team together for their trip to Box and like when the teams met a month ago it was Bath Road who thanks to a 5-0 win ran out victors.

A first-half double from Lee Grant set Bath Road up nicely for a second half that saw Richard Hudson add a further two and Nick Manifold a single for Luke Jones side who, after defeats against both Corsham Centre Youth and Bremhill View in their last two games, were happy to sign off with a win.

Knockout Cup winners Corsham Centre Youth may have seen their hopes of a league and cup double disappear in midweek following their 2-1 loss at Bremhill View, but Pete Ralph and Martin Bradfield’s team made an immediate return to winning way at the weekend when they travelled to third place Worton & Cheverell, who after a three-week wait finally got to complete their season.

Centre travelled to West Lavington with only 10 players and no goalkeeper, despite being a man down they were 1-0 up within five minutes, Liam Ralph made a good run down the right and crossed for Mark Sharratt to knock home the Centre’s first.

Within five minutes of falling behind, Worton fashioned an equaliser as stand in keeper James Lye tried to fist the ball out but Kyle Davies effort flew into the net.

Although Centre had the greater possession it was Worton who went in front through Mark White, they then took a 3-1 lead on 40 minutes from a great header from Chris O’Donovan.

Manager Pete Ralph swapped it about at half time, an under-the-weather Ben Thomson went in goal and James Lye was put up front.

Lye’s first touch was to head home a Lewis McCarron corner to reduce the deficit.

From the kick off Worton reclaimed a two-goal advantage, Chris O’Donovan’s shot going under keeper Thomson’s foot to make it 4-2.

The 10 men of the Centre then picked the pace of the game up and Lewis McCarron curled home a smart goal from just outside the area.

Ten minutes later Adrian Webb stroked an exquisite volley through a mass of players to square things up at four apiece. Another corner on 75 minutes saw Sam Hodsoll’s headed effort pushed onto the bar and marathon man James Lye was first to react as he stabbed the ball home to make it 5-4.

Although one man short throughout, Centre continued to press with the work rate of the industrious Tom Chandler epitomising the will to win attitude.
