WILTSHIRE triathlete Freddie Webb is celebrating his second podium position of the season after securing a bronze medal at the British Triathlon Championship (Youth) in Liverpool.

Despite bad weather conditions, 15-year-old Webb, who trains with Richard Smith at the Hot Chilli club in Trowbridge, led after the final transition and came home behind close friend and Travis Bramley and Scottish competitor Cameron Maine in the race, which consisted of a 500m swim, 10km cycle and 2.5km run “It was a really tough event but I felt the benefit of all the training I have put in over the winter with my club and the TYR Southwest Talent Squad,’’ said the John of Gaunt School pupil. “This gave me the edge to push on despite the weather.”

Meanwhile, members of the local Athlos Triathlon Racing Team also made the journey to Liverpool this weekend for the British National Championships.

Kirk Latham, having already qualified for the Sprint Triathlon World Championships in Chicago later this year, finished in two hours 10 minutes 42 seconds to come 13th in his age group.

Will Crudgington, aged 16, raced in the Junior Elite race, putting in a 17:57 5k run to finish 29th overall and 10th in U20 age group.

Hot Chilli club triathletes also turned in some strong results, with Lysa Fairhurst finishing fifth in her age group and 30th female overall. Alex Laird finished 69th overall in his first major open water sprint triathlon in 1:23:01.
