BOX have reached the quarter-finals in the Women’s National Top Club competition, to be staged at Royal Leamington Spa on September 12-13.

Beaten national semi-finalists in 2011, Box won this year’s Wiltshire section of the Top Club with a 3-1 victory over Amesbury and followed that by beating Somerset’s Congresbury and Worcestershire’s Broadway in the inter-county play-offs.

Then in the west section of the play-offs semi-finals on the neutral green at Amesbury, they whitewashed Dorset rivals Broadstone Wessex 4-0 to book their place at Leamington.

Box won the singles by nine shots and the pairs by one as Alex Jacobs gained revenge over the Broadstone duo who had earlier knocked her and Sue Cooke out of the senior pairs at Leamington.

The triples and fours were no contest as Box won both by 21 and 30 shots respectively.

BOX have also qualified for the county Top Ten team final and will face North Wilts on Bowls Wiltshire finals weekend at Devizes on September 5-6.

They beat Wilton 4-0 in the southern final, while opponents North Wilts drew 2-2 with Westlecot in the north final but took the honours on shots difference, 73-65.

SPENCER Moulton have qualified for the Wiltshire men’s Four Rink League semi-finals, booking their spot with a 75-63 quarter-final victory over Highworth.

They took the honours on both rinks at home in Bradford but away at Highworth won one and lost the other.

Holt thrashed Swindon West End seven days earlier, winning on all four rinks in a 101-45 victory.

The semi-finals will be played this Sunday on neutral greens, with Spencer Moulton meeting Westlecot at Swindon West End and Holt facing Wotton Bassett at Chippenham Town.

ROUND three has proved to be a stumbling block for bowlers from Holt and Spencer Moulton competing in the men’s national championships at Royal Leamington Spa.

Wiltshire triples holders Wayne Simmonds, Wayne Snook and Ben Gadd (Holt) lost 18-6 in the last 16 to Parkway (Hunts).

Meanwhile, in the national pairs championship, Spencer Moulton duo Russell Francis and Graham Shadwell went out in the last 16 losing 20-14 to Travis Meller and his partner Darren Griffiths (Shanklin, Isle of Wight).

Elsewhere Justin Davis and Ben Gadd went out in round one to Canterbury (Kent).

In the champion of champions competition, Russell Francis lost in the quarter-finals to the holder Matthew Marchant (Boscombe Cliff, Hants) 21-17.

And Wootton Bassett’s Dave Snell failed in his bid to emulate Alex Jacobs (Box) and retain his senior (O55s) singles title when losing in the semi-final 21-11 to Devon’s Kevin Phillips (Topsham, Exeter).
