TOM Davie enjoyed the perfect warm-up for his stag do at the weekend with a crushing 128-run success at Tewkesbury.

The Warminster skipper, who gets married on Friday, was delighted to finish the season with a victory after two defeats in their previous outings.

Following their success at Tewkesbury’s Gander Lane, Davie headed for London for his stag-do.

“It was a decent way to start the celebrations,” the Warminster captain said. “I’m getting married on Friday and it was great to finish the season with a win.”

As Davie prepares for his impending nuptials, he admits that the Sambourne Road side have taken a little time to get over the disappointment of not winning the Glos/Wilts Division.

As they headed into August, Warminster were one of several sides vying for the title.

However, three defeats in four matches left those title dreams in tatters.

“I think it did take a few matches to get over falling out of contention. It is hard to get yourself motivated when there is little to play for,” Davie said.

“So it was good to finish the season with a win because it is a long old winter.”

After being asked to bat first by their Gloucestershire hosts, Warminster set about batting Tewkesbury out of the game.

They were indebted to a fine unbeaten century from number four batsman Des Kruger as his 118 not out was the cornerstone of Warminster’s 257-5.

The visitors then bowled Tewkesbury out for 129 with seven overs to spare with Davie and John Powell claiming three wickets apiece.

“It was important for us to finish the season with a positive result,” Davie added.

“We can use this result and look to build on this for next season.

“Des batted really well and took his chance and to be honest 250-odd was always going to be too much on that wicket.

“We bowled well too and the wickets were shared around with John Powell and myself taking three each.”

With the restructuring of the league set to be ratified next week, Warminster are expected to remain in Glos/Wilts Division.
