HOLT are still on course to regain the men’s Wiltshire Four Rink League title that they won for the only time in the club’s history in 2012, but Bradford on Avon’s Spencer Moulton - beaten in that final three years ago - are out of this season’s play-offs.

In the play-off semi-finals played last Sunday, Holt gained revenge for their defeat in last year’s final when they comfortably beat holders Wootton Bassett 88-64 on the neutral green at Chippenham Town.

But Spencer Moulton, down to the bare bones owing to holidays and unavailability, were no match for Westlecot at Swindon West End BC, losing 80-52.

The Four Rink League final this Sunday on Devizes' top green (2.30pm) will see Westlecot - winners 10 times in the last 13 seasons - face in-form Holt, runners-up for the last two seasons.

l TWENTY FOUR hours later, Holt saw their hopes of reaching Bowls England Headquarters at Royal Leamington Spa and the last eight of the Top Club next weekend disappear.

The Dorset & Wilts champions were beaten 4-1 by Southampton Sports Centre, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight champions, in the South and West regional final in Southampton.

The sole Holt success came in the fours where Rod Summers, Kevin Rowden, Don Gray and skip Justin Davis won their match 18-13, but they lost the other four disciplines, two and four-wood singles, pairs and triples.

“It was obviously disappointing to lose and go out at this stage in the competition,” said match secretary Davis.

“If Tony (Keating) had won the two-wood, which he lost on the last bowl by three inches, things could have been different as the pairs was only three down with a few ends to go. The game finished a bit early as the triples lost, giving them a 3-0 lead.”
