COUNTY town rivals Trowbridge Town Reserves and Trowbridge Wanderers Reserves met at Woodmarsh and with bragging rights at stake as well as the three points in the Division Two showdown, it was Mark Hurkett’s Wanderers side who claimed a 3-0 success.

A Mark Maguire goal separated the teams at the interval. Mo Camera and Ashley Styles secured for points or the victors in a match that was well refereed by Steve Higgins.

AFC Bradley and Division Two leaders Westbury Town put their unbeaten records on the line at North Bradley and although they fell behind to an early Elliot Blanks goal, Westbury proved too strong for Matt Rusling’s side who slumped to a 5-1 loss and had it not been for a fine second-half performance from keeper Stuart Powell the winning margin could have been a lot more.

Phil Hampson got Westbury back on level terms and a second from the in-form striker put his team 2-1 ahead. Gary Tugwell made it 3-1 prior to half time. Wanderers had a couple of chances to reduce the arrears in the second half with Blanks heading against the bar.

Powell was inspired for Bradley with a great spell before Westbury scored two late goals to wrap up the win. Hampson completed his hat-trick to make it 4-1 and a second from Tugwell put the icing on the cake with his second and his teams fifth of the afternoon.

Calne Eagles got back to winning ways with a convincing 6-0 win over Aces Reserves. Calne dominated the first half and took the lead when their top scorer Adam Welch capitalised on a mistake by Aces’ goalkeeper Mike Robbins.

They then doubled their lead halfway through the half when Danny Heap redirected Mickey Taraskevics’ shot past Mike Robbins with his chest.

In second half Aces rallied and were denied a route back into the game when Greg Richardson was denied by a smart save from Andy Windsor in Calne’s goal. At the other end keeper Robbins saved well from Karl Sharratt.

With 20 minutes left Adam Welch scored his second of the game and this led to the flood gates opening for the home team. Both Karl Sharratt and sub Brett Cullen got their first goals of the season. Adam Welch also completed his third hat-trick of the campaign to finish off the 6-0 score line.

Zeals may have celebrated their first win in 23 matches with last weeks victory over The Stiffs, but the villagers were brought back down to earth with a bang, following their 7-0 loss at the hands of title chasing Melksham Town A.

Barry Holloway's men looked sharp right from the kick off and created a number of very early chances. Zeals captain Steve Wyatt cleared one shot off the line and goalkeeper Martyn Hodges pulled off 2 fantastic saves to deny Melksham in the early stages. But goals from Sean Fordham, Jake Sainsbury and Jordan Evans put the home side three up at the break.

Zeals defended excellently for the first 25 minutes of the second half but two further goals from the in-form Fordham saw him complete his hat-trick and put him on 11 goals for the season.

Zeals did have a couple of opportunities themselves, with JP Rodrigues going close, but it was not going to be their day. Two goals from James Dark, the first coming from the spot, completed the scoring for Melksham, keeping them in second spot and as big title contenders.

The Stiffs may have taken the lead at home to Luxol St Andrew Reserves, but Bobby Cunningham’s team fought back to run out 12-1 winners.

Steve Lewin’s opener for the Stiffs was just a consolation as Dudley Philpott restored parity and from then on it was one-way traffic.

Terry Askew bagged himself a first half brace and a Ben Howlett hat-trick put them 6-1 up. Matt Woodhead, Fynn McCarthy-Driver with two, Jamie Hancock and a Rafal Witcher double made up Luxol’s dozen.
