A LATE strike gave Nigel Tripp’s Chippenham Park Development side the leg up they needed to see off Wiltshire League rivals Royal Wootton Bassett Town Reserves.

Matthew Legg came off the bench to score for the home side at Stanley Park to complete the 3-2 success, having lead 2-0 at the break.

Emilio Modrak opened the scoring in the first half when he picked the ball up on the edge of the box and drove it past the Bassett goalkeeper.

The hosts were two up before the break when Callum Bell took a direct free-kick and Arun Gurung helped it on its way to the goal.

After the interval, Bassett pulled the game back level through strikes from Ryan Collins and Carl Shepherd, before substitute Legg secured all three points when he got on the end of a Ben Pring ball.

“It was horrible conditions again but the boys played well and worked hard for the win,” said Park boss Tripp.

“We went in 2-0 up at half time with the wind and we said how important it was not to concede early on and within a minute it was 2-1.

“It was then 2-2 within 10 minutes but my players responded well and kept playing and got the goal right at the end.

“I thought it was a deserved win.”

Park now sit seventh in the Senior Division and despite having to deal with an ever changing side Tripp is pleased with his team’s progress.

“We’re a development side and we have got players who will go on and play first team football for Chippenham,” he added.

“This coming Saturday we will be trying another two or three youngsters, so it is always swapping and changing but they are learning, which is important.”

Elsewhere, Trowbridge Town continued their fine form at the top as they recorded their ninth straight win in all competitions with a 6-0 success over Sarum Youth.

Their lead was extended at the top of the pile as second-placed Shrewton United fell to a 2-0 defeat at home to fourth-placed Melksham Town Reserves.

Malmesbury Victoria beat local rivals Marlborough Town 4-3, while Trowbridge Wanderers and Wilts Calne Town played out a goalless draw.
