WARMINSTER captain Tom Davie was left frustrated by his batsmen's failure to back up the bowlers as they suffered a crushing 129-run defeat against Cheltenham.

Davie was pleased to restrict title-chasing Cheltenham to 257-5 in batting friendly conditions at the Victoria Ground but Warminster then failed to capitalise on them themselves as they were bowled out for just 128 in reply.

Jack Berrisford and Mark Coxon-Tenty put on 49 for the opening wicket but after that, only two other Warminster batsmen made double figures as the reply lasted just 36 overs.

"I thought the first innings performance was pretty good, to restrict them to 250-odd was a good effort on that track," said Davie.

"It was fast and good for scoring runs – if I’d have won the toss, I’d have chosen to bat first too.

"We bowled well and it could even had been a bit better for us. If we’d held one or two chances and had a few decisions go our way, then we could have been chasing something more towards 200.

"Even at 250, we felt pretty optimistic chasing that on a good pitch but we were let down by our batsmen and we’ve had that problem a couple of times this year.

"When the pressure is on we seem to lose wickets in clusters and that puts more pressure on the batsmen at the crease."
