THE battle for the Division One crown took another twist this weekend as Bear Flat returned to the summit after Royal Wootton Bassett fell to a defeat.

Heading into the weekend’s games, Darren Beasant’s men held a 14-point lead at the top, however, their six-run loss at Box coupled with Bear Flat’s 38-run win over Lacock saw another change at the summit.

The new leaders were dismissed in their home game for 169 with three balls of the innings remaining, but bowled Lacock out for 131 with 10 overs to spare.

Bassett, meanwhile, restricted Box to 154-7 but they were bowled out for 148 as they slipped to second in the table.

Division Two

SWINDON United Churches recorded a resounding nine-wicket victory at relegation rivals Beehive.

After losing the toss, Churches found themselves in the field, but Chris Spackman (2-16) and stand-in skipper Chris Gilchrist (4-27) made light of the flat Beehive track as they had their hosts reeling at 9-4.

But Beehive rallied with some good middle order resistance as James Taylor (37), Daniel Thomas (31) and number 10 batsman Pete Andrews (34) got the hosts up to 155 all out.

Churches wasted little time in knocking off the target as an unbeaten 79 from Jimmy Mann and 36 not out from Danny Hunt saw them home in the 28th over.

Division Three

KUDZI Mlambo played a starring role in Swindon A’s one-wicket success over Keevil.

The all-rounder led the charge with ball with 4-27 as the visitors were bowled out for 140 before a solid 32 helped the County Ground side to victory in 28th over.

Division Four

CHIPPENHAM 2nd maintained their lead at the summit with an eight-wicket thrashing of Wanborough at Hardenhuish Park.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat and closed on 132-9 from 43 overs, with Adam Sullivan (35) the pick of the bowlers.

Chippenham then went on the attack and claimed the win in the 20th over, with Ollie Slade blasting his way to 76.

Division Seven

PURTON 2nd strengthened their lead at top of the table following a 156-run win at Calne 2nd.

After losing the toss at Beversbrook, the leaders were asked to bat first and they found themselves in trouble at 86-5 thanks to three wickets from Cameron Axford.

However, a sixth-wicket stand of 138 between Fraser Conway (75) and John Devlin (69) helped Purton close on 248-9.

The visitors then quickly set about dismissing Calne and skittled them for 92 in the 24th over thanks to 6-18 from Joe Dunn.

Division Eight

HIGHWORTH continue to lead the charge for the crown following a 114-run win over Cherhill.

Paul Squires (65), Mark Wilson (58*) and Ryan Allen (51*) helped the hosts post 244-3 before they then bowled Cherhill out for 130 in the 37th over, with Scott Landis picking up 5-18.
