Aaron Drinan said he never lost faith that the goals would come as he scored his first for Swindon Town in their 3-2 defeat to Mansfield Town.

Drinan headed home from Zac Elbouzedi's cross to make the score 2-2 in the second half as Swindon pushed the league leaders at the One Call Stadium.

Despite having to wait eight appearances for his first goal, Drinan said that he knew that he would get off the mark before long as he rebuilt his fitness.

He said: "I am absolutely delighted [to have gotten off the mark], I thought that I would have scored a couple by now.

"In the past two or three games the goalkeepers have been pulling off some decent saves and I thought that I had scored just before it from the corner.

"All you can do is keep getting in there for the chances and then I will always back myself to eventually put them away.

"Zac put in a great ball and I was able to get my head on it.

"[I didn't doubt myself] too much, in the first couple of games I knew it was going to be about building myself up, I came in off the back of an injury and I wasn't pushing myself too much.

"Obviously you want to score sooner rather than later, but I am positive in that way where I will keep trying and trying.

"You always need to back yourself as a striker to be putting the chances away and I did that today."

Drinan was also full of praise for Elbouzedi, whose cross set him up to head home in front of the travelling supporters, believing that Swindon would have done well to try and get him involved even more than they did.

He said: "He creates loads of damage, he is direct and pacey and we should have used him a lot more today.

"Every time he got the ball, he was getting down the line and crossing and he was putting in some good balls.

"I think that sometimes we got dragged into Mansfield's thing of hitting the ball a bit longer and we were just doing the same thing.

"We should have got on the ball more and just let him do what he does because he got an assist last week and another good ball this afternoon, so he should be full of confidence."
