Liam Kinsella said that he “loved every minute” of his six-month spell at Swindon Town, although he felt Cheltenham Town was an opportunity he couldn’t turn down.

The midfielder arrived at the County Ground briefly before the start of the season and would make 22 appearances in League Two before making the switch to Cheltenham in January.

During an interview with Gloucestershire Live, Kinsella discussed his time at Swindon and his decision to leave Walsall last summer.

He said: “Being there [Walsall] for so long, it was a tough decision, they appointed Matt Saddler and I spoke to him and we agreed it was the best for me to go and try something new.

“It was a long summer, I didn’t sign for a club straight away, you are looking to see what is out there and Michael Flynn and I stayed in contact and spoke.

“He took me in and I was training there for a couple of days to keep fit and then as soon as that happened it all happened quickly and I got the contract signed for a year to work with him again.

“I got along with him brilliantly and he is another fantastic manager I have worked under and I wanted to work with him again.

“I met some fantastic people there [Swindon], it was only a brief spell, but we started off fantastically, I think we were top two for the first one or two months.

“Fantastic lads there, you have Dan Kemp and Jake Young who were absolutely flying, and there were people I met there who I stay in contact with now.

“It was a brief spell, but I loved every minute of it.”

Despite enjoying his time with Swindon, Kinsella felt the lure of League One football and reuniting with Darrell Clarke irresistible in January.

He said: “I spoke to the gaffer [Clarke] in the summer, I try and stay in contact with him to ask him for advice.

“Him signing for Cheltenham I kept looking at them to see how they were doing.

“In January we both got in contact with each other, and he spoke to my agent in mid-January and we wanted to get a deal done.

“As soon as I heard the interest from Darrell it was something that I couldn’t turn down really, to have the chance to go back to League One and play under the gaffer again.”
