Udoka Godwin-Malife said that if Swindon Town do not sort themselves out then they will be looking at a relegation scrap.

With seven games remaining in the season, Town find themselves in 20th place in League Two with an 11-point gap to the bottom two, although they now have a game in hand on 23rd-place Sutton United.

Due to international call-ups for Walsall, Swindon did not play at the weekend, allowing both Colchester United and Sutton to close the gap as they both picked up points, although Forest Green Rovers and Grimsby Town both lost.

Town head to Sutton on Easter Monday and still have to play fellow strugglers Grimsby before the end of this current campaign as they look to make sure they are still in the fourth tier at the beginning of next season.

Three defeats in their previous three matches have seen Swindon begin to look over their shoulders at the relegation zone, even if the possibility of it happening this season remains remote as the teams beneath them would have to drastically improve their form to catch Town, even if they continue to struggle to pick up points themselves.

Godwin-Malife was asked whether he was becoming concerned about being involved in a relegation fight and he admitted that Swindon would need to improve to assuage any fears of it.

He said: “We shouldn’t be relying on bottom to beat bottom, that is not the position that we should be finding ourselves in.

“But the harsh reality is that if we don’t fix up then that is what we will be doing [looking towards the relegation zone.]

“If we think we have got pressure on us now, this is not pressure, I have been there and I said it to the boys as a few of them have been there before as well.

"I got relegated last season from League One with Forest Green and it is not a nice feeling when you are in that rut and you are feeling it, teams aren’t going to feel sorry for you, they are going to come and suffocate you because it is a results business, every team is in it for themselves.

“Some teams that we will play are chasing for something and some teams we will play will be fighting for something, and that is just how it is.

“We don’t feel sorry for anyone and we can’t feel sorry for ourselves, especially.”
