Harry McKirdy has played his last game for Swindon Town during his loan spell from Hibernian, according to interim head coach Gavin Gunning.

The 27-year-old made his homecoming on loan on deadline day during the January transfer window, returning to the club where he scored 21 goals during the 2021/22 season and was named in the League Two Team of the Season.

But McKirdy has made just one start since returning to the County Ground across nine appearances, playing the first half before being substituted against Harrogate Town, netting his solitary goal with a memorable strike in stoppage time against Gillingham in February.

Since making a six-minute cameo at the end of the 2-0 win against Barrow, McKirdy was left on the bench against AFC Wimbledon and then was not part of the squad against Walsall and Grimsby Town as he dealt with a niggle.

The former Swindon Advertiser Player of the Season will not get one final send-off for this loan spell in the last game of the season against Morecambe as he is still not fit enough to feature.

Gunning said: “Harry won’t be involved at the weekend. I think that he might be in-between [Swindon and Hibernian].”

McKirdy is not the only player who was hoping to make it back in time for the final game as Tariq Uwakwe and Reece Devine were also in a race to be fit.

Uwakwe has not featured for Town since he played against Reading in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy and hasn’t played in the league since being withdrawn at halftime away against Notts County in October.

The 24-year-old has been dealing with a serious knee injury which was initially thought would keep him out for between eight and ten weeks, but then suffered a fresh injury in February as he was close to making a return.

Devine will be hoping to play at the County Ground for the very first time in the final game of his second season at Swindon.

Injuries have plagued the former Manchester United youngster’s time in Wiltshire, dealing with two major hamstring injuries that have limited him to just 53 league minutes across two seasons.

Gunning said that it was doubtful whether Uwakwe would be able to feature, but Devine could be in line for that County Ground debut.

He said: “Maybe Reece [could be able to play], Tariq might but I am not sure, so we will see.”
