THE master will attempt to slay his former apprentice tomorrow when Darren Perrin takes his Frome side to Hardenhuish Park to take on Adie Mings’ Chippenham Town in the FA Trophy.

Mings took over his current role when the former Bluebirds boss departed in February 2007, having previously worked under him as his assistant.

The pair have never clashed in management, although Perrin will be looking to spoil his former protege’s birthday when the duo head-to-head for a place in the second qualifying round and £2,300 in prize money.

“When I was offered the job I didn’t know we had Chippenham, if I did I may not have taken it,” joked Perrin.

“It’s a no-lose game for us. They’re flying after beating Havant and Adie has done a fantastic job.

“They’re buzzing at the moment and will be relishing the game but so are we.

“We’ll go there with two up front and attack. On paper we’ve got no chance but shocks do happen in cup competitions.”

The pair have known each other for more than 30 years but Perrin, who is undefeated since taking over at Frome, says there will be no time for friendship during the match.

“Adie is one of my best friends in the game,” he said.

“We’ll have a chat before but from half-past-two to five o’clock there will be no friendliness and nor would you expect there to be any.

“However, whether they hammer us or we pull off a shock win, I’m sure we’ll have a few beers after the game.”

Mings, who turns 41 on Saturday, says he and his side will prepare for the contest like any other.

“It will be good to see him come back,” he said of his former teacher.

“However, it will be no different to managing against any other local boss. It is not about me against Darren, it is about Chippenham against Frome Town.”

Two more familiar faces will also be in direct opposition tomorrow when Bluebird left winger Sam Allison lines up against his cousin Simeon, who plays on the right for the Robins.
